High-Tech Dentistry in Austin
Dr. John and Lori Babineau and their team of hygienists use much of the state-of-the-art equipment that modern dental technology has to offer. Below, you can read about some of the high-tech dentistry equipment we use to make dental treatment more efficient and comfortable.
iLase by Biolase is a diode laser that delivers very short pulses of laser energy, resulting in more comfortable dental procedures for our patients. In our practice, we use diode lasers to assist in killing bacteria and stimulating healthy gum growth and regeneration of healthy tissue. We also use the diode laser to perform gum line recontouring, to remove muscular frenums and allow us access to decay under the gum line. With dental lasers, procedures can be performed more quickly, there is less swelling, healing occurs faster and there is no lasting discomfort after the procedure is completed.
Panoramic X-rays capture detailed, panoramic views of your mouth. This provides us with a detailed, high-quality image of the entire mouth that allows us to view parts of your jaw that can’t be seen with traditional dental X-rays. Panoramic X-rays are often used to evaluate jaw joint problems and plan orthodontic treatment, dentures and implants.
Digital X-rays provide many advantages for both the patient and the dentist. Office visits are shorter, digital X-rays use 80% less radiation than film X-rays and the high quality images help us detect very small cavities.
The X-rays may be reviewed immediately on a computer monitor and allow us to show our patients any problematic areas, helping them understand any problem areas that require attention. Since digital X-rays don’t require chemicals as film X-rays do, they are also much easier on the environment.
Intraoral cameras are tiny handheld video cameras that project an enlarged image of the inside of your mouth onto a computer screen. This allows our patients to see what we see. We use the intraoral camera as an exam, treatment planning and educational tool for our patients.
DentLight Oral Cancer Screening
Although oral cancer is actually quite rare, we like to offer screening in order to provide the best preventive care for our patients. We use the DentLight DOE SE kit for effective and comfortable oral cancer screening. Florescent technology also allows us to see inside and outside of the mouth, and detect any abnormalities in gums, tongue or bones.
DNA testing for Gum Disease
Over the past ten years, research has shown that genetics contribute to a person’s susceptibility to gum disease. OralDNA Labs provides our hygienists with a tool, salivary DNA testing, to obtain precise information about the presence of periodontal disease in your mouth.
Severe periodontal disease causes chronic inflammation and has been linked to other diseases such as diabetes, strokes and heart disease. As we continue to learn more about the connection between gum disease and overall health, having information about the specific bacteria present in your mouth can be vital to treating the disease and improving overall health.
E4D Same Day Crowns & Restorations
Our doctors use E4D 3D technology to scan, design and mill restorations in a single day. This includes crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays and bridges. A laser wand is used to scan your mouth and take a “digital impression”, eliminating the need for messy, old school impression material.
The E4D software allows us to create a digital model of your restoration that is then processed by the milling machine. We use a single block of porcelain to create your new restoration. This technique has the benefit of being highly durable and has an appealing translucent color that mimics the reflective quality of natural tooth enamel.
- Our patients choose these restorations because it cuts down the amount of anesthetic needed and eliminates the need for a temporary restoration and limited eating.
- With E4D technology, we can now do complete smile makeovers in 1-3 days!
DIAGNOdent Laser Cavity Detection
With the DIAGNOdent system we can easily and accurately discover decay at an early stage, allowing us to correct the problem before more damage is caused to the tooth.
While visual exams and exploration can find decay on the surface of the teeth, and X-rays show advanced decay and decay between the teeth, neither procedure finds decay, also called caries, inside of the tooth.
The Diagnodent system provides an effective way to identify caries hidden below the surface of the tooth through the use of a wand that emits harmless pulses of laser light to scan your teeth for signs of decay.
Kör Teeth Whitening
The Kör deep bleaching system restores your teeth’s ability to absorb oxygen. Oxygen in the whitening gel is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving large stain molecules and replacing them with small oxygen molecules.
Cosmetic Imaging with SNAP Software
We’ve equipped our office with SNAP Instant Dental Imaging software. We simply take a digital photo of your smile, choose the procedure, or procedures you are considering, run the program, and create a photo of you with your proposed new smile. You will see an actual visual representation of the proposed results before beginning any cosmetic procedure.
Oraverse Anesthetic Reversal
OraVerse is a groundbreaking new product that helps to significantly reduce the effects of dental anesthesia. The injection is given after your dental work has been completed, and clinical studies have shown that normal sensation can be regained twice as fast, often within an hour.
Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treatment
Our doctors often use oral appliance therapy to help patient suffering from the effects of a sleep apnea disorder. We have found both TAP (Thornton Adjustable Positioner) and SomnoMed products to be effective for treating sleep apnea and relieving heavy snoring.
Our hygienists use ultrasonic scalers to gently remove hardened plaque and heavy stains from the surface of your teeth. As the ultrasonic scaler vibrates, it produces sound waves that painlessly break apart stubborn calculus, which is then rinsed away.
Stem Cell Collection and Banking
We provide an easy solution for the collection of stem cells that are found in our teeth. Stem cells offer promise in treating injury to certain cell types as well as treating cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, damage to the brain from hemorrhage or stroke, spinal cord injury, paraplegia, autism, diabetes and many other conditions.
